The Aqua Therapy Blanket is a unique, pump-driven, water-circulating, cooling blanket for horses. Designed to cool the animal without the direct contact of ice or water, the Aqua Therapy Blanket would be used to reduce inflammation and swelling associated with equine injuries, while promoting good circulation.

T he Aqua Therapy Blanket would be a system composed of the following components: 1) A reservoir for ice and a brine solution. A brine solution will be desirable as the fluid will hold a lower temperature, without freezing, than water; and the reservoir will be fitted with two flexible hoses or water-lines, one to carry water away from the reservoir to the Cooling Blanket, and one to return that water to the reservoir, after its passage through the blanket, for re-cooling. 2) An in-line, electrically powered water-pump will force the brine solution through the outflow hose, through the cooling blanket, and back into the reservoir. This pump might operate continuously whenever activated, or be activated at pre-set intervals by the use of an included, programmable timer. Also, the water-pump might be powered by Alternating Current through a standard electrical outlet, or be powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack. 3) In terms of size and shape, the Aqua Therapy Blanket will closely resemble other premium-quality horse blankets. Generally speaking, the material for horse blankets varies from canvas to wool to nylon to polypropylene. Likely, the material for the outer layer of the cooling blanket will be canvas or polypropylene. Inside this outer shell, the cooling blanket will feature a continuous, looping or folded tube – analogous in design to the coiled tubing in a car's radiator – which carries the icy brine solution into the blanket from the inflow line, through the entire extent of the blanket's coverage, and back out of the blanket through the outflow tube, to the reservoir. Here the brine solution will be re-cooled in the ice. The cycling process will be continuous, so that when the system is operating, the blanket is constantly receiving the coldest brine solution. Due to densities, the coldest solution will be at the bottom of the reservoir, the warmest solution at the top. Thus, the outflow line should be at the bottom of the reservoir, the inflow line at the top . The Aqua Therapy Blanket has been designed as an effective means to cool horses in hot climate, and as a therapeutic blanket, a sort of “cold- pack” for horses that have suffered injuries. Just as a cold-pack is used by people to reduce swelling and inflammation after injuries, the Aqua Therapy Blanket would be used in this fashion for horses. And this product would perform this function without direct contact of ice or water with the horse's coat – contact which might shock the animal, or be uncomfortable. The Aqua Therapy Blanket would assist in lowering the animal's body temperature and promoting good circulation of the blood. Perhaps best of all, the Aqua Therapy Blanket , once fitted on the horse and activated, would do all of this automatically , allowing the overheated or injured animal to rest and recuperate.
