The Water Buddy is a multifunctional entertainment system specially designed for use in a swimming pool or other recreational body of water. Design intent is to provide swimming enthusiasts with a technologically advanced product that allows for digital communication, electronic gaming, music playing, and the like from the comforts of the water, without worry that the equipment would be damaged.

Envisioned as water-based “entertainment center,” or a waterproof device specially designed to house and facilitate operation of a collection of electronic equipment, including but not limited to a cell phone, CD/DVD player, television, tablet, and mp3 player. The basic design of the Water Buddy housing would consist of a pyramid-shaped unit, featuring a height of approximately five to ten inches (5”-10”), and a width that tapers from two inches (2”) at the apex to a base width of seven inches (7”). Largely fabricated of a durable foam material for optimal buoyancy in water, the Water Buddy would likely be enhanced with a secondary plastic or similar material for waterproofing. Centrally positioned on the pyramid would be an incorporated liquid crystal display (LCD) screen; this screen would be utilized for playing video content from DVDs as well as displaying game graphics transmitted from a smart phone or similar device. A series of speakers would surround the screen, offering sonic accompaniment for any electronic unit inserted into the Water Buddy. To facilitate the latter, the area below the screen would boast a series of waterproofed rectangular niches, which would serve as “docking stations” for both protecting and operating the devices. A basic model of the Water Buddy would provide receptacles, as mentioned above, for inserting a smart phone, a CD/DVD player, and an mp3 player such as an iPod. Additionally, a wireless communication device could be incorporated into the unit so that pool users would be able to communicate with persons inside the home via a companion receiving unit. Power to the Water Buddy would be provided via an internal battery source, or conveniently supplied by a solar panel positioned on the exterior of the device. As an option, an underwater camera could be located at the base of the unit for use in viewing children underwater whether for fun for the kids or as a supervision device for adults. Also, a propeller and optional rudder could be included at the base of the unit as well should the device be remote controlled. The Water Buddy could be produced in many different styles to appeal to children and adults, from animal shapes, to football shapes and many in between. Colors could be bright and eye catching, or natural and relaxing, the design possibilities are endless. The Water Buddy would facilitate enjoyment of a cornucopia of electronic devices while frolicking in a body of water. As home spas, pools, and lakes provide individuals and families with a reprieve from the stresses of daily life, the Water Buddy would further encourage positive social and family interaction through its many electronic features. Consumers will also appreciate the versatility of the Water Buddy, as it would keep the whole family entertained with its unlimited choice of activities. Safe to use, play with the Water Buddy set would certainly be appropriate for children, as they could engage in video games or leisurely watch a favorite movie while floating around in the water. Moreover, the Water Buddy could prove an invaluable safety device, as the product could be quickly used to call for help to those inside the home or to place an 911 call in the event of an emergency. Adaptable to a limitless amount of design modifications and evolving technology, a product such as the Water Buddy could provide years of continued use and enjoyment.
