Features & Benefits
The Seed Saver would present itself as a compact box, fabricated in molded thermoplastic and measuring approximately 1 ½ inches in height, 12 inches in end-to-end length, and 9 inches in front-to-back depth. The box will feature 4 pegs or small legs at the corners (1 at each corner) to elevate it slightly above an underlying surface and allow for ventilation. In addition, the top side of the unit, also in each corner, would be 4 counter sunk holes (1 in each corner) for use in stacking the units atop one another, while still allowing air to flow freely through each unit. The Seed Saver box will be divided lengthwise into two compartments featuring their own separate latch system(s), such that one-half of the box is devoted to drying seeds, and the other half to storing dried seeds. The drying side will feature a flat continuous bottom on which seeds may be spread, and a top and sides molded in a mesh or lattice-work. The top and sides, then, will promote the free flow of air through the drying compartment, and eliminate the necessity of “turning” the seeds. (Instead of “turning” the seeds to ensure that both sides dry, one would simply give the Seed Saver a good shake, then let the drying process continue.) The storage side of the Seed Saver will be further sub-divided into rows of airtight, snap-sealing compartments that will keep dried seeds dry, dark, and sequestered as to species or variety. The inside bottom of these storage compartments would curve upwards at the ends to allow for the easy removal of stored seeds. In addition, the lids of these compartments would feature integrated plastic holders inside of which paper labels featuring the name of the stored seeds would be prominently displayed. The Seed Saver solves two problems in one simple, easily used, easily affordable gardening accessory. Drying seeds in the Seed Saver would be as simple as collecting the seeds, spreading them across the drying side of the Saver, and giving the Saver a shake from time to time during the drying process. Likewise, once the seeds are dried, one would simply collect them from the drying side of the Seed Saver and place them in the appropriate storage compartment. This simple, compact system will save gardeners a tremendous amount of time – and keep their counter-tops free of the traditional tedious and space consuming method of drying seeds on waxed paper!
